The Birth of Venus by Botticelli represents the rebirth of civilisation, new hope, geopolitical and social culture shift after the tumultuous Middle Ages. She was born a naked goddess, set adrift in a scallop shell to Cyprus. Venus was birthed from the spray (yep that kind) from Uranus’s genitals, ripped from him by Kronos and tossed into the ocean.
She is the epitome of beauty and some have said Neoplatonic love. This divine love first elicited from physical beauty, then lifts the mind to divine love. The painting also references the Baptism of Christ by Leonardo da Vinci and Verrochio. It has also been said that Venus, after landing on earth and having been given a robe, becomes a mortal. She may even be the Madonna and thus the personification of the Christian church.
In my depiction I have melded the two representations together to prove that Jesus was a woman (hehehe).
