Orthdoxy is not for everyone 122x122cm
I started this painting after watching My Unorthodox Life on Netflix-and my blood was boiling at how women are treated. It was getting me so angry. In the name of religion women are caged in this claustrophobic, terrifying existence. I have upturned this and given my ladies the power, they still wear their wigs, but I have confined the male within the birdcage with the females doing the manipulating-leaving him powerless and puppet like. The cage is also fashioned in the shape of the hat often worn by the men and the strings attached to the fingers reflect the curls oft seen popping down the sides of the mans face. The hat is adorned with sections of the torah. Whilst flames are whipping up the sides-indicating hell -where he currently is and where women would be for appearing naked also.
