Description
Gods are the best weavers. 90x100cm
Arachne in Greek mythology or Minerva in Roman mythology was a weaver whom with massive HUBRIS (a folly) stated she was better than the goddess Athena at weaving…a competition ensued and Arachne won. Athena then beat her and her tore her weaving in a fit of rage. Arachne realising that she was in trouble attempted to hang herself, whereupon Athena in a godly manner turned Arachne into a spider to weave and hang for the rest of her days! So I’m thinking who showed the greater Hubris (Pride)- think they are both cut from the same cloth- both having massive egos. Or can it be that Arachne just spoke the truth and got severely punished for doing so?
